This site is about model and prototype railroading, and features information about my layout building and operating activities, and other layouts.
  • The C&SFT is a fictional Switching railroad located between the IHB and EJ&E mainlines near the Illinois / Indiana state line, from the mid-1970's to mid-80's.
  • The Chatham Industrial RR is a fictional C&O industrial branch located in Chatham, Ontaria, Canada. It hosts C&O and Canadian Pacific traffic.
  • Illinook is a 3-2-2 Inglenook style track module 4 x 1.5 feet in size, representing a hot mix asphalt plant, with trackage connecting to the C&SFT.
  • Case Industrial is a HO scale layout in a 2x1 feet suitcase.

CSFT looses weight.

Not that the CSFT was overweight! But in order to fit our new (to us) car into the garage I needed to do some surgery (or is that butchery) to the CSFT.

Case Industrial progresses...

Construction is progressing nicely. The sector plates have been finished, complete with wires to connect to the wire bus.

A new industry for the CSFT, Part III, and Case Industrial

After some evening scrictehbuilding activity after full days of work, Forest Junction Hardware Supplies is nearly completed

The front wall of the building has been constructed and detailed. Detail has been added to the interior of the building in the form a loading platform, some people and some industrial clutter.

A new industry for the CSFT, part II

SO far, the industry for the 'ornary' corner of the CSFT layout near the Bluwall printers building is coming along well. The basic structure has been completed, with some extra bracing for strength. The trackwork inside the building has been completed. Along with the back wall, and the front wall (in relation to the front of the layout).

A Really Portable Layout?

As part of some content I am providing for an eBook provider, I had the idea of designing and building a HO scale micro layout in a suitcase. Talk about a challenge! It required a lot of thinking 'outside the square', and working out ways to make the layout interesting to operate while keeping costs down and having interesting scenery.

A new industry for the CSFT

It seems like eons since I last did any real scenic work on the CSFT. But last night I started on a new low relief industry for the area next to Bluwall printers. For quite some time the area has been a bit of an eyesore.

The Silos is finished

It took a while. But the flour mill / grain silos industry on Chatham is now finished! The finishing touch was a grain unloading shed to suggest covered hoppers being unloaded into the silos. So now the industry can receive various grains in covered hoppers, and can send flour out in covered hoppers or bagged in box cars.
