Tomorrow (July 22nd 2008) is the big day! Over the last few weeks I have been preparing the 'new' layout (really just the 4 modules I am keeping of my 'U' 17 x 8 feet C&SFT
layout) and working out how I am going to put them in the trailer for the Big Move. And tomorrow I pack the trailer with the layout, and the van with other belongings.
I have decided to fasten the three 6 feet modules together using wooden boards, and allow the trailer sides and wooden boards to keep the layout rigid for the trip. The plan is to buy a reasonable sized tarpaulin and put it over the layout modules and trailer once the layout modules are fastened together, and then put a trailer net over the tarpaulin. The tarpaulin and trailer net will be fastened to the trailers frames. I tried a similar approach to this with a previous layout over a distance of about 100kms (60 miles). I am hoping I can refine the system a little for this trip.
Then Thursday 23rd July 2008 I head off into the unknown somewhat. This move will be a record for me. It will be the longest distance I have ever tried to move a layout at about 1000kms (600 miles). The previous record distance for me moving a layout was about 400kms (about 250 miles). Hopefully records are the only things broken on the trip!
