Of Cameras and Cars

After producing a number of videos of my layout ( see http://www.youtube.com/jimsmodeltrains ) I have decided I want to try some video taken on trains on my layout. I have seen a number of good cab view type videos of layouts on YouTube, and want to see how I go at that sort of thing.

So I have been experimenting with the idea of using putting a camera in/on a car and having a loco push and pull it around the layout to get some interesting video footage. Tried a mobile phone with a video camera in it. It worked OK for side views, and sort of worked for front and back facing views. I also tried a MiniDV camera, but it was mostly too wide and heavy and clearance at a number of locations on the layout was a problem, as well as the center of gravity of the camera being too high when it was on the car and causing the car to topple over at times.

I think I might have to bite the bullet and get one of those really small cameras that I can mount in one of my dummy locos. I guess at least that way it could give a true 'cab view' of the layout.
